Artlife Dump... and Zombies

2024 recap and current studio updates

Hello and Happy Spring!

As I well predicted- it’s been… TWO YEARS?? 🤯 since my last newsletter! WOOF that’s impressive! A rare treat for your inbox so hopefully it’s a read you enjoy. Maybe it’s a good tactic to keep people guessing about my adventures, (or existence), but I won’t ponder that long for I might get too distracted to even finish this email.

A quick breakdown in case you wanna scroll…

  • Scenic Life → Zombies and An Opera 🧟

S C E N I C

From last March to July I had the great pleasure of working on, “The Walking Dead- Dead City Season 2! ”. Lot’s of fake blood, lot’s of faking the apocalypse. I even ran into a real zombie in the bathroom one time (this is true and was quite startling, but the zombie was polite enough to apologize). Show premieres May 4th on AMC!- I believe it might also be available through Netflix.

I would love to show pictures, but until the production airs I’ll have to keep those in the vault. ごめんなさい 😢

I had a hand in several cool projects. From painting a massive faux marble floor (hundreds of sq feet), apocalypsing (truly a word) buildings and vehicles, to color correcting a very famous painting… There was plenty to destroy and bloody! (things get pretty exciting on a zombie set.)

Continuing with the spooky/scary I even managed to find myself propping up skeletons and painting haunted houses with
Boston’s Wicked Haunt Fest.

(Side note- I love my job and the absolutely ridiculous situations I sometimes find myself in.)

Beginning of Scaffold Construction

Ceiling Restored

The last part of my scenic year was truly a dream come true. With the incredibly renowned company, Evergreene Architectural Arts, I had a rare opportunity to work alongside an amazingly passionate and skilled group of painters. We restored ceiling murals of an Opera House in Thomaston, Connecticut. The theatre and murals dated back to 1890 and needed extensive plaster restoration and re-painting.

I was hired post plasterwork, and began on the meticulously painting of patterns, ornaments, and trompe l’oeil motifs. Weeks were spent looking up at a ceiling, working on a scaffolding twenty-five feet up in the air. I don’t know how my neck is still functioning, but it was well worth the discomfort.

Cleaning and Plasterwork completed… Ready for paint.

Restoration completed.

It was an honor to be apart of the team to restore this beautiful work of art.

Touching up a border

There’s so much that personally impacted me during this project that it needs its own separate post. Keep a look out for a more in-depth conversation coming soon!

A R T L I F E

Despite a super productive gig year I managed to complete and send off some paintings during the summer. Last year I began showing work at Susan Powell Fine Art, in CT, and continued showing with Bowersock Gallery in Provincetown, MA.

As I wait for my next scenic gig I’ve been busy in the studio trying to get several pieces started. I’m definitely still juggling the work/art balance and hoping that having a lot of inspiration and in-process pieces can make those transitions more attainable. However… hopes and dreams immediately fly out the window if a movie rolls along…- but who needs sleep? 🤣
